Job Description: Board Vice President
Position Overview: The Vice President serves as a key leader within our organization, ensuring that the initiatives set by committees are executed effectively and efficiently. This role requires a strategic thinker who can manage multiple projects, support the President, and act as an ambassador for our mission in the community with a focus on fundraising and outreach. This candidate should anticipate succeeding the President on, or before, January 2026. This is a volunteer and elected position, having a 2-year term commitment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leadership & Management:
o Act as the tactical head to ensure all committee plans are implemented successfully.
o Manage a comprehensive list of projects and action items, ensuring timely completion and accountability.
o Support the President and stand in as President on an interim basis if needed.
o Oversee and supervise Playhouse staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
• Board Engagement:
o Serve on the Governance Committee, to help create and drive strategic vision for the Playhouse.
o Prepare for and actively participate in board meetings, engaging in program evaluation, policy development, financial oversight, and fundraising initiatives.
o Maintain confidentiality regarding board meetings and decisions and support all board actions publicly.
• Financial Oversight:
o Review local financial statements monthly to ensure fiscal responsibility.
o Participate in the annual performance review of local Playhouse staff and provide feedback on staff assessments.
o Meet annual fundraising contributions of at least $5,000, either through direct contribution or fundraising efforts.
• Fundraising & Community Engagement:
o Attend or volunteer for more than one major fundraising event each year.
o Assist in identifying and cultivating donor prospects for the Development Committee’s
database.
o Engage in fundraising activities, such as soliciting donations, securing event sponsors, and following up with donors.
o Collaborate with regional fundraising structures provided by the national office to establish effective fundraising committees.
o Lead efforts to grow programs and increase the number of families served through improved fundraising strategies.
• Volunteer Management:
o Coordinate with Playhouse staff to fill all roles necessary for the local Playhouse to operate effectively (including but not limited to board members, committee chairs, program leads, etc.)
• Accountability & Reporting:
o Create and complete at least two strategic objectives (“rocks”) each quarter, tracked on
the Board Project List.
o Ensure compliance with the Conflict of Interest Policy and participate in the development of new board members.
Qualifications:
• Strong leadership and management skills with experience in nonprofit or community organizations.
• Proven track record in fundraising and financial oversight.
• Familiarity with Down syndrome preferred and a passion for the organization’s mission
required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to serve as a public spokesperson.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
Commitment: This is an elected position requiring active participation in board meetings, ongoing training, and a commitment to the organization’s mission. This person should anticipate succeeding the President on, or before, January 2026.
