Executive Director, Leadership Stark County

Overall purpose of position:

Assure the development, implementation and the viability of Leadership Stark County (LSC) by customizing, creating, maintaining and developing community leadership coaching and programming, for high school aged students to “seasoned” leaders within Stark County.  Create and implement professional development training opportunities for Canton Regional Chamber members in partnership with external education providers.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Represent and promote LSC to the community by attending local and regional community related events, while actively maintaining and building relationships with both local and regional for-profit and non-profit organizations and leaders.
  2. Support programming through the promotion of programs via social media and other forms of marketing/PR.
  3. Develop and implement program events for Signature Programming (opening retreat and ten program days).
  4. Provide and oversee administrative support functions before and after each program, including but not limited to, Signature, Spotlight, Youth Programming, Board Matching.
  5. Research, develop and implement new and existing programs and related events, based on the needs of Chamber members and the community (i.e. leadership training for high school students, young professionals, emerging leaders, and skills-based leadership for all ages/level of leadership).
  6. Work closely with the LSC Advisory Board and Executive Committee. Prepare agenda and compile meeting materials. Facilitate meetings.
  7. Provide overall guidance with volunteer committees; attend meetings and assist as required.
  8. Organize Signature selection committee; send out applications, facilitate and conduct group interviews.  Administer scholarship funds.
  9. Interview new Signature program participants; provide orientation; communicate expectations.
  10. In collaboration with the Chamber Membership team, create and implement new professional development programs for employees of member businesses in partnership with educational institutions and other external training providers.
  11. Develop and maintain the Annual Leadership campaign
  12. Responsible for acquiring sponsorships for programs and scholarships.
  13. Develop and oversee program assessment and strategic plan process, ensuring full integration between LSC and broader Chamber strategic priorities.
  14. Supervise staff: recruit, select, hire, train, coach, assure performance and positive morale, administer action steps.
  15. Work with the LSC alumni association’s executive board. Facilitate meetings and programs.
  16. Oversee and as needed, write and support LSC staff with completing grant proposals for the development and creation of leadership programming.
  17. Prepare and manage LSC department budget, growing revenue and controlling costs.
  18. Attend CRCC Board meetings and functions per department head duties.
  19. Create, develop and maintain ongoing strategies for communication and collaborative programming between LSC and other Chamber departments.

Qualifications:

  1. Broad knowledge of both local and regional community and volunteer organizations and strong network of regional relationships.
  2. Computer skills: Microsoft Suite products and Google drive.
  3. General business acumen: marketing, budgeting, strategic planning and goal setting.
  4. Strong organization skills.
  5. Facilitation skills.
  6. In-depth interpersonal skills: ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships both internally and externally.
  7. Supervisory skills and leadership skills with a strong focus on development, training and teaching employees.
  8. Visioning skills and creativity.
  9. Flexibility to accommodate program variables.
  10. In-depth written and oral communication skills; presentation skills.
  11. Influencing and negotiation skills.
  12. Undergraduate degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  13. Active involvement in community activities.
  14. Experience leading a group of volunteers and ability to effectively communicate with the group meeting outcomes.
  15. History of and ability to successfully fundraise for a non-profit organization and/or events.
  16. Willingness to try new ways of doing or thinking to increase innovation and technology into program delivery, based on feedback and research.
  17. General knowledge of grant writing and application process.
